Management Assessment of Proficiency (MAP)
It has often been said that the most precious resource an organization has is its management talent. Whether the organization grows, remains static, or declines is largely a function of how well the members of the management team relate to one another and their responsibilities. That's why the Managerial assessment of proficiency or MAP is a special process to provides the sort of Insights that are not possible through other diagnostic tools.

MAP is a fully integrated assessment center based approach using a series of questionnaires to help determine not only a person's current and potential skills as a manager but also how these skills compare to thousands of others in the database. MAP therefore helps your managers find and understand their fundamental strengths: managerial strengths, without which leadership skills cannot grow and flourish. It allows participants to identify their weaknesses that may be hindering organizational goals. Once identified and defined by MAP, these competencies can be trained, practiced and mastered to help turned into strengths.

The Managerial Assessment of Proficiency is an objective video-driven, competency-based, computer-scored program of Assessment, Interpretation, and Development Planning. You'll be able to benchmark performance, conduct a Needs Analyzis, schedule training based on needs, obtain data for HR actions, and strengthen the partnership between participants and their managers as they prepare and implement their Individual Development Plans.

In 10 video episodes, Bill Taylor and his team of four supervisors exhibit a range of 12 key managerial competencies as they simulate what happens during a typical work week. Participants will evaluate the actions of Taylor and his coworkers and see parallels from their own experience.

ASSESSMENT

The assessment portion of the Managerial Assessment of Proficiency makes use of case method and simulation presented in video/workbook format. The episodes are drawn from a week in the life of Bill Taylor's department: Administrative Services. Responses are scored by computer.

INTERPRETATION

This session examines the composite (group/class) Proficiency Profile, using two group exercises and up to four videotapes that focus on the 12 competencies. These exercises give managers the feedback needed to interpret their personal and confidential Profiles.

PLANNING

The third phase of the Managerial Assessment of Proficiency begins with the premise that managers must take charge of their own development. For the process to be effective, participants must also take advantage of the resources and people who can help. Participants and their managers will be creating an Individual Development Plan that will become their personal roadmap for ongoing managerial growth. (A copy of the last two pages may go to THE CENTER FOR ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT for curriculum planning.)

Don't let your managers continue their journey without this roadmap! Each participant will receive the bar graph that shows their individual scores, and a second that is a composite of the group's performance. As you add to the data, you will be able to generate a Proficiency Profile showing the competency norms for your specific organization or any part of it - by level, by department, or even by location.
